Is it unhealthy or damaging for ivies and creepers when trained or growing over a house?

I love ivies, and creepers and I've wanted a house covered in ivy for most of my life. I'm about to build a smarth earth-material house that will include a fireplace, and I'm wondering if it would be damaging for the ivy to be trained to grow over it? I don't want to grow it if I'll make it sick or kill it.

Advice very much appreciated!

they allow termite unseen access to your house and aid them to avoid termite barriers......it your house has any warranty on termite barriers your warranty will be voided
Reply:It's not the Ivy you should be worrying about. The plants can cause damage to the structure of the home. Those little roots or climbers get in-between mortar, cracks in stucco and can even damage your foundation, allowing water damage to occur. Think twice before you start training ivies to grow onto your home.Sorry, didn't mean to be a downer!Bye
Reply:At the begining they would not damage the home but after time they provide cover for animals like rats, mice, possums, ect. Not to mention how they actually penatrate the exterior siding. I have seen them penatrate stucco, vinyl %26amp; wood siding homes.

They do look nice I will agree but overall I would vote against it.
Reply:The only thing I don't like about Ivy is if or when you have to remove it from bricks it's very hard to clean off completely.

Ivy will kill a tree but growing on a house is fine if it's going to be maintained and pruned when required.
