What do you when a car tailgates you very closely?

you know, when a "**** creeper" slowly goes up behind you and just follows you very closely, like a couple yards, isn't that the most annoying thing a person can do on the road, other than cruising at the left lane on highway. What do you typically do on those occasion?

One of my favorite is to suddenly break pretty hard and then release just to give a guy a heartattack, pretty fun.

What do you when a car tailgates you very closely?
I flick boogers out the window.
Reply:All you guys are way off. If someone's tailgating you, they're usually expecting you to tap the brakes at some point, that rarely works; at least in California.

I can't believe that no one else does this:

If the car is nicer or newer than mine, or even is close to a car someone would want to keep nice, I throw a handful of change up in the air above my car. I hate change and have a ton of it in my car. If you got a handful of quarters and you throw it straight up, 90% will hit the car behind you. There is nothing that pisses off the ****** behind you than 15 chips on the hood of his new mercedes.
Reply:I tend to go even slower than normal, just to really piss them off, and show them I think they are morons for driving so close to me.
Reply:I slam on my brakes....I mean, they are tailgating me so if they run into me it's there fault for driving so close....so says the DMV
Reply:How about sticking your arm out the window and waving the driver back?
Reply:A brake check.
Reply:NEVER slow down suddenly or stop. You'll have an accident.

Best bet, get into the right lane. The driver isprobably an idiot, let him pass you.

((Let me guess, I 95, Hartford ,CT))
Reply:since I have a new car I no longer do the brake thing. If I am in the left lane I move over to the right and let them pass. I am hoping they get stopped by a cop so I can wave at them as I pass by.
Reply:I drive 200 to 300 miles in the city every day in my Taxi. Just maintain a two to three second space in front of me and I don,t care what the fool behind me does so there is no fun following me and they go find someone else to annoy.
Reply:First I slam on my brakes and then I just stay slowed down. Sometimes I'll just take my foot off the gas and cruise a while and if they try to pass me I'll speed back up! LOL

I have a lead foot and am usually speeding, but never get on someones tail cause I don't want to have an accident if they suddenly stop. People are stupid for doing this and if they are tailgating me, then they are going wayyyyyy to fast! Shoulda left earlier!
Reply:Look on rear view mirror. Sometimes turn your head to look back. So they know that they are tailgating you. Try to drive like crazy. Turn the radio volume up, move yourself, jump...jump...

Turn on your lights, or your sign light in every corner but don't turn. After few corner then slam the gas and give your middle finger to them, when they slam their gas, slam your brake. If they had crash on your car, that's better, you can start to slam the tailgater too.

If you are in the red light, let your engine run idle, put first gear, when the green light is on, don't move. The other car behind you will put horn and push the tailgater to move so you can see his face. Or if you can do a quick turn around, do that. And look at the tailgater and give him your middle finger.
Reply:Safety comes first. If it can be done safely, just get out of the jerk's way. He'll rear end someone sooner or later and it may as well be someone else.

I had a friend who used to tap his breaks in that situation. He stopped when the practice got him rear ended.

If getting out of the way is not an option (Can't change lanes, one lane road and so on) just take your foot off the accelerator, and slow down gradually until he or she backs off. This is much safer than tapping or slamming your brakes, and works most of the time.

If this fails turn on your hazard lights and pull off to the side of the road. If this STILL doesn't work, the tailgater isn't interested in getting past you, but in harassing you. Call the police to report a dangerous and aggressive driver.
Reply:i speed up a bit, leave the guy behind where he cant catch up. unless the guy looks like he's in a hurry i move to the side. but if the guy is just behind you with chances of passing you then i leave the guy behind maybe put a car in between too
Reply:I agree with what you say about people tailgating.. But there times I do that myself to people. So let me explain the other side of the story. SOmetimes.. Especially where I live, (Pensacola, Florida) people do not differentiate between the slow lane and fast lane.. And this is most stressful.. I get highly aggravated when I am trying to get somewhere quickly and someone the in the left hand lane is going just as fast as the guy in the right hand lane. When all he has to do is speed up for one moment and get ahead of the guy in the right hand lane, or slow down, fall back and get behind the guy in the right hand lane. It is really inconsiderate.. I don't know if you are talking about when there is traffic and you have no choice but go a certain speed and someone is just being an a-s-s by following you too close. But if you are talking about hogging a lane that there is no point to be in.. Then , I am one of those a-s-sholes that tailgate. Whenever I drive. I always stay in the right lane unless I am gonna pass somebody. Once I pass them. I move back over into the right hand lane. If everybody would drive like that and use the left hand lane only as a passing lane or if you have to turn off it and make a left.. There would be a lot less congestion.. Thanks for a place to rant my piece.. Just to give my side..
Reply:i hate people like that there are two things i do which is drive slower if there are cars on the opposite side when the cars are gone i speed up that way they cant pass or i just stomp on my break.
Reply:Move out of the way. Slamming on brakes can cause an accident. Even though it will be "punishment" for the driver. It is annoying process to fix the vehs it can take mths to have the claim solved. Plus, you may injury yourself or the other individual.
