What kind of climbing pant can i grow in northorn illinois?

we recently moved into an upstairs apartment that has a good sized balcony type porch, i want to put some kind of creepers at the edge of the porch so they will grow all around it..I'm kind of tired of just plain old ivy, is there any flowering creepers that would do good, btw the porch has a deck roof over it so i imagine this is considered partial shade?..also if i have to stick with ivy, how would i go about getting it? and what do i need to grow it?..also if anyone could tell my what zone rockford, IL is in it would help me pick out some compatable plants for our garden-thank you

clematis is a good climber with good sized flowers and hardy good for most zones
Reply:I'm just up the interstate about 2 hours from you , in Wisconsin. I grow clemantis. It comes up every spring and blooms all summer long. Also, you might try one of the many varieties of climbing roses. they do very well here too.
Reply:Try climbing hydrangea-you can plant them in a nice size pot with garden soil (miracle grow) they will bloom and climb as well.

another would be honeysuckle not the wild type. I have one in a pot and it comes back each year and the humminbirds love it
Reply:pants only climb when someone is wearing them :P

ie the climber!
Reply:Rockford, Yeah !!! My home town : ) Anywho, exciting huh? You should check out Clematis. It's a very hardy spring/summer blooming flower in a variety of colors (purples, whites, blues). Does very well from year to year. Should do well in Rockford which is in the 4-5 growing zone.
