What does this sentence mean?

Here was loop of creeper with a tendril pendant from a node.

It's from Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the books a total bummer but my english teacher's making me read it.

ugh.

Anyway, I really need to know what this means and no1 was able 2 help me yet!

If this is any help: the sentence is from a passage describing the forest. i.e. the jungle, sorry.

anyone? hello? pleeease! =(

What does this sentence mean?
i just read that for english class last week!

i know..

tendril = part of a plant thats thin and pointless

node= knot
Reply:LOL wow, I had way more information than THAT... Report It
Reply:It's a description of some vegetation in the jungle.

A creeper is a long vine, so the first part describes a long stretch of vine that is looped around. The second part describes a thin green piece of growth (tendril) hanging down (pendant) from a part of the plant (node).

It's just to give you a visual image of the abundant plant life.
Reply:with all due respect, i think YOU are the bummer. you are not ready to read that kind of literature. English is my second language, and i already read "The lord of the flies" for my philosophy class. and it is really easy to understand. the problem is that you are reading sentence by sentence and you don't relate them. use your brain, do your homework,.
Reply:A creeper is a vine. A tendril is a small growth on a vine that helps it support itself. A node is the joint where the leaf grows from the stem.

So the sentence describes a length of vine with a little bit of growth hanging down.

That's the literal meaning. As for a metaphor, I haven't read the book so I can't help you with that, but you should be able to figure it out from the context.
Reply:It's an example of personification or anthropomorphism. The writer is describing a jungle vine in human terms as if the leaf on the vine were a worn pendant.
Reply:A creeper is a vine. It's describing a branch of the vine growing in a loop, with a little baby branch sticking out in one place.
Reply:1. tendril: slender, cold, hanging plant structure "Here was loop of creeper with a tendril pendant from a node."

2. pendant: hanging "Here was loop of creeper with a tendril pendant from a node."

3. node: knot, lump "Here was loop of creeper with a tendril pendant from a node."
Reply:could it mean like a jungle vine (creeper) that is looped from the tree above, has like a metaphorical necklace (penadant) growing from it.. like a swirly growth of some sort, and the node would be like the bud that the swirly growth was attached to..

never really read the book, but i hope this helps!!

xxXXxx
